Integrated movement therapy

...

Integrated Movement Therapy (IMT) is a therapeutic approach that combines principles of yoga with traditional therapeutic techniques to support individuals with autism and other developmental or neurological disorders. Developed by occupational therapists, this method aims to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social challenges by integrating movement, mindfulness, and relaxation practices. Effective implementation of IMT requires instructors who are not only skilled in yoga but also trained in therapeutic techniques for individuals with autism although there is a lack of large-scale, rigorous scientific studies confirming its effectiveness, especially compared to more established therapies like ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis). Integrated Movement Therapy can also cover other proposed therapies such as such as music, dance, yoga, theater, and martial arts.
