Brain Balance Program

...

Brain Balance is a commercial program marketed as a non-medical, drug-free approach to improving various developmental and behavioral challenges, including those associated with autism. The program was developed by Dr. Robert Melillo, a chiropractor and researcher, and it is based on the concept that many of these challenges stem from an imbalance between the two hemispheres of the brain. It is also known as "The Melillo Program" or "The Melillo Method". The Brain Balance program is based on the theory that many developmental disorders, including autism, result from a functional imbalance between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. This theory posits that one hemisphere may be underdeveloped or functionally weaker, leading to symptoms seen in conditions like autism. The program aims to "balance" the brain by providing targeted sensory, motor, and cognitive exercises designed to stimulate the underdeveloped hemisphere, thereby improving overall brain function. The underlying theory of hemispheric imbalance as a cause of autism is not widely accepted in the scientific community. Critics argue that there is insufficient empirical evidence to support the program’s claims, and that it oversimplifies the complex nature of autism and other developmental disorders. While Brain Balance claims to be effective, there is a lack of rigorous, peer-reviewed studies validating the program’s efficacy specifically for autism. Independent research is limited, and existing studies often have methodological issues. These personalized programs are costly, 12,000 € or more for six months of training, three days a week. Given the cost and the time consumption for persons with autism and their families and the lack of scientific evidence supporting this method, it could be considered a scam.
