Assessment of nutritional status

...

Nutritional status describes the state of the body in relation to the consumption and utilization of nutrients and can be classified as well-nourished or malnourished (underor over-nourished). The assessment of nutritional status uses anthropometric measures to assess body composition (measurement of weight, height, body mass index, body circumferences and skinfold thickness), laboratory tests to assess biochemical parameters, clinical assessment of comorbid conditions, and interviewing to assess dietary practices. Assessment aims to ascertain the impact of the nutritional status on health and functioning, and inform care planning, including the need for referral or follow-up.
