Iron supplementation

...

The administration of supplements such as vitamins, minerals, and other natural substances is proposed with the purpose of improving neurotransmitter function by increasing the availability of substrates and cofactors and/or compensating for supposed biochemical deficits that could cause autism. Oral vitamin/mineral supplementation is beneficial in improving the nutritional and metabolic status of children with autism, however, no evidence suggests it provides improvements in autism symptoms. In the case of diets with iron supplementation there are several risks, including death in the case of overdose.
