Slapping therapy

...

"Slapping therapy," also known as "paida lajin" or simply "paida," is a controversial and dangerous practice that involves slapping or hitting the body to supposedly release toxins and improve health. It is based on traditional Chinese medicine concepts but lacks scientific validation. This practice is particularly concerning when applied to individuals with autism or other vulnerable populations. Slapping therapy can cause significant physical harm, including bruising, swelling, pain, and even more severe injuries. The repeated physical impact can be particularly harmful to children and individuals with autism, who may not be able to communicate their discomfort or understand the reasons for the treatment. Being subjected to slapping or hitting can be traumatizing, especially for individuals with autism who may already struggle with sensory sensitivities and anxiety. This practice can exacerbate behavioral issues and lead to long-term psychological harm.
