Packing (cold, wet compresses)

...

Packing is a controversial and highly debated practice purported to treat autism, primarily used in France. This method involves wrapping an individual, often a child, in cold, wet sheets, followed by dry blankets, to induce a state of physical and psychological regression. It is meant to help individuals with autism reconnect with their body and emotions. Practitioners claim that packing can reduce symptoms of autism, such as self-injurious behavior, by providing a form of sensory and emotional reset. he practice can be distressing and potentially traumatic, especially for individuals with autism who may already have sensory sensitivities and communication difficulties. Obtaining informed consent from individuals with autism, particularly children, can be challenging, raising ethical questions about the procedure's appropriateness. Many professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and other international bodies, oppose the use of packing due to the lack of evidence and potential harm.
