Floortime

...

Floortime is a developmental therapy designed to support children with autism by promoting emotional connection, communication, and social interaction through play-based activities. Floortime is a key component of the Developmental, Individual-differences, Relationship-based (DIR) model, which emphasizes building relationships and understanding each child’s unique needs and developmental level. While some studies have shown positive results, research on Floortime is still relatively limited compared to other autism interventions such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). One of the challenges with Floortime is the lack of standardization in its implementation. While the principles are well-defined, how Floortime is practiced can vary widely depending on the therapist or parent, making it difficult to measure outcomes consistently. While Floortime can be beneficial for building social and emotional skills, it may be most effective when used in combination with other evidence-based therapies like ABA, speech therapy, or occupational therapy. A multi-faceted approach ensures that all aspects of your child’s development are addressed.
