Behavioural optometry

...

Behavioral optometry is an area of optometry that focuses on how visual skills interact with behavior and learning. Proponents claim that behavioral optometry can improve various visual and developmental issues in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), such as eye movement control, visual perception, and hand-eye coordination. However, the scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of behavioral optometry for treating autism-related symptoms is limited. There is little scientific research specifically evaluating the effectiveness of behavioral optometry for autism. The majority of studies on behavioral optometry focus on general visual processing issues or learning disabilities, not on autism. Most of the support for behavioral optometry in autism comes from case studies or anecdotal reports, where parents or practitioners report improvements in behavior or learning. Vision therapy often involves multiple sessions over a long period, which can be costly for families. The financial and time commitment may not be justified given the limited evidence of its effectiveness for autism.
