Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH)

...

TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication-Handicapped Children) is a structured teaching program designed specifically for individuals with autism. It emphasizes creating a highly organized and predictable learning environment that uses visual supports, schedules, and clearly defined work areas to promote independence and understanding. The program is individualized to meet each child's unique learning style and focuses on developing skills in communication, social interaction, and adaptive behaviors.

TEACCH has been shown to improve educational outcomes and functional skills in children with autism. Studies indicate that the structured, visually based strategies of TEACCH help reduce anxiety and behavioral challenges by providing clear expectations and routines. Althougth some research has shown positive effects from this therapy, but more high-quality studies are needed.
